Seriously, people, go see Hillstomp on Saturday

YAKIMA, Wash. -- I went to YouTube earlier this week to find a clip of Portland neo-hillbilly blues duo Hillstomp for the On Facebook.

About half an hour and ten videos later, I finally made a decision. But I could have spent another hour watching and rewatching these guys.

So here’s my advice to you, On Blog readers, go see Hillstomp at the Yakima Sports Center on Saturday. It starts at 9 p.m., and it'll cost you $5. But it's worth it; these guys are for real.

They sound like they were raised on R.L. Burnside records and Harry Smith’s legendary Anthology of American Folk Music. Then again, so does Nick Cave, and these guys don’t sound a thing like him. So there had to be something else in there. I’m thinking maybe The Buzzcocks or maybe The Sonics, something that gave them a punk-garage sensibility as opposed to Cave’s gothic troubadour thing.

Anyway, I’m just guessing. The point is: Go see Hillstomp.

And if you need more convincing, spend an hour or so with them on YouTube. Check out the clip below to whet your whistle.
