Secretary of State Reed will be in town next week

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed will swing through town next week, stopping at Central Washington University and Yakima Valley Community College for College Civics Week.
Reed will hit CWU at 9 a.m. Thursday to recognize students with more than 100 hours of community service. He’ll take a look at their projects and then make a speech. After that he’s off to YVCC, where he will host “Civics Jeopardy” and a brief Q&A.
According to Reed’s office, the YVCC event was moved to the Parker Room in the Deccio Building. It was scheduled for a smaller room, but interest was so high, it had to be moved.
Who’d have thought? College students excited by a visit from a state official. Things must have changed since I was in school.
Snark aside, things really have changed.
Since 2000, voting among Washington residents aged 18 to 24 has increased by 23.3 percent, according to Reed.
