Hastings wonders where all that shovel-ready money went

Rep. Doc Hastings

It’s not exactly prime time, but Rep. Doc Hastings was ready when Fox News called this morning.

Hastings, the Pasco Republican, has emerged as a leading critic of the Obama administration from his perch as ranking minority on the House Natural Resources Committee.

This morning it was the stimulus package and the $298 million billion or so that the U.S. Department of Interior has not yet spent.

“Secretary (Ken) Salazar said we have shovel-ready jobs ready to go. Here we are now five months later, and less than one-half of one percent of those dollars have gone out the door,” Hastings said. “The question is, and I think the question most Americans are asking, where are the jobs?”

Salazar testifies today before the House Budget Committee.

It's no secret why jobs are not being created. Obama has declared war on private businesses by proposing to raise taxes on energy (cap and trade) and impose penalties on employers who don't provide health insurance. Businesses are watching Obama's wreckless spending and are anticipating that @#$% have to raise taxes on businesses to cover the huge deficits. Obama's answer to every problem is more government, and somebody (usually businesses) has to pay for it.

We need a new representative. We never hear from 'Doc'. He should have been more vocal in the past. He's a typical rich boy that took over his dad's business after he flunked out of school, then ran for congress. Those guys don't get mad or understand the struggle of regular people or small business.

'$298 million billion'... is that a real number?

Actally, Doc is pretty solid. I think it would be difficult to get a more conservative candidate elected. Having said that, he's very weak on the illegal immigration issue. That bothers me, but under enough pressure, he could probably be persuaded on that issue.
