Just got off the phone with anti-tax initiative guru Tim Eyman.
He was tight-lipped about his prospects for getting Initiative 1033 on this year’s ballot. The initiative would cap general-fund revenue for cities, counties and the state by tying it to the rate of inflation and population growth.
While Eyman isn’t saying until Thursday whether he has enough signatures, it’s probably a pretty safe bet that he does. He announced at the beginning of last week that his signature gatherers had collected 270,000 names on petitions.
Initiatives this year need 241,153 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. But, as Eyman says, “You’ve got to have a cushion, and the cushion has to be substantial,” because not all those signatures will be valid.
He’ll feel comfortable with 292,000, he said.
Does he have that many? We’ll get back to you.
“That’s the big announcement for tomorrow,” Eyman said.

Yes, Go Eyman...go away. If anyone actually looked at this proposal they would go ask Colorado what happened when they implemented the exact same thing....they almost had a complete collapse of their education system and spent years trying to fix the damage it did to education and human services in that state.
This is real bad.
Our initiative is radically different than the Colorado measure - it's apples and oranges.
The best way to describe I-1033 is by reading the one-pager on the main page of our website:

Good job Tim! It's unfortunate our elected representatives can't control spending on their own.
What ever happened to the $30 tab? I just renewed my half ton truck and it was $79.00. That's a 263% tax increase!!!!!!!!!
Limiting state, county and city general fund revenue, that is not otherwise approved by the people, to population growth & inflation is a fine idea.
I call dibs on canceling Mayor Edler's vote out, anyone up for Zais?
lobo...
I just paid $81.75 to get my car license re-newed at Wrays Thriftway. Since my plates are 7 years old I "HAD" to purchase new plates....the ones I had to throw away were "perfectly" good...errrrr!
